2024 Indian Elections: A Democratic Saga

Since independence, India has held 17 general elections, and in 2024, we are celebrating the 18th festival of elections from April 19 to June 1, 2024, in seven phases, to elect 543 members of the Lok Sabha. The votes will be counted, and the results will be declared on June 4, 2024. As the largest democracy globally, the world looks at us with hope during these elections. General elections are a crucial part of Indian democracy. Through these elections, we have an opportunity to elect representatives who will work for us, better their constituencies, and ultimately contribute to nation-building. General elections are the only time in five years when we pause to reflect on the previous term of the ruling party. We assess whether the promises made in their manifesto have been fulfilled. Based on their performance, we rethink the candidature of the Members of Parliament (MPs) and the ruling party. If they do not align with our expectations, we have alternative options.
