I feel very happy to
get back to the things I love. Writing is one among them.
It has been time to
bid adieu to 2023 and welcome the new year 2024. While moving forward to the
celebration of the new year, it is a generalized notion for a few people like
me to pause and reflect on the year that has passed by. This reflection on the
year's journey makes a lasting impact on our lives. Every year comes with the
hope of an ocean of opportunities and passed by lifelong lessons. Everyone has
their ups and downs during this crucial time of year. Importantly we must pause
our rushed lives and reflect on the things that have gone by. For some, the
passing year is full of learning, for someone it is full of success, for
someone it is full of trial and error or failures, and for someone, it is just
a year of survival, but it always teaches us and leaves us with something to
celebrate or prepare for the good and the bad times in future. It is only up to
us to take a break from our hasty lives and think for certain about the year
that has gone by. More importantly, it is the only time of the year to give us
a chance to relive the happy moments, celebrate our wins and accomplishments,
regret the opportunities that have not been taken, and the biggest among them
is to, plan the future. So, in a nutshell, we must take this time to learn the
lessons from the years that have gone by, to prepare for the best and worst in
the future, and to make our next year full of success.
The year 2023 has
been an instrumental year for me in terms of my professional and personal
journey. This year taught me various lessons in both aspects of career my
career i.e. personal and professional. It is good to learn from these lessons
and be prepared to work for the better in every aspect of our lives. To
remember and note down all the good and bad lessons is an excellent idea to
learn from them and aspire to follow them in the future. Whatever I've learned,
seen, read, and understood I tried to summarize here via this platform.
This year has been
started with my career thirst after I graduated with my master's. I was
initially in a dilemma about choosing between a job and higher studies as both
options are open to me and I’m interested in both. However, due to certain
constraints and my primary interest, I opted for a job. After searching for
months I finally landed with an opportunity, that too in the field of my
interest. I joined the firm. After spending some time over there I felt
exhausted as I was not satisfied with that job and finally, I quit my job
within a little time.
I feel that it was
not worth it for me to stay there. I was constantly hoping for something
different from what I intended. After resigning from the job, I spent a month
thinking about my next position, here also I was in a huge dilemma to choose
between two options, I hoped to secure a spot for higher studies, and fortunately I secured the same, too that in an elite institute, but again due to
certain personal attributes, I did not take the admission into that. It leaves
me with a huge void in my thinking. I was completely clueless after these two
events and had no clear path ahead.
This passage of Jan
2023-August 2023 taught me several important lessons, which I wish to know earlier.
Following are the few among them:
- Clear thinking and proper planning are the essentials for life and career.
- Saying YES to everything will spoil your mental health and career too.
- It is better to move from somewhere, to which you did not belong.
- Overthinking is the biggest cause of unhappiness and unproductiveness.
- Hard work will always pay off.
- The more you give, the more they try and take.
- People will remember more of what they have done for you, than what you did for them.
- Being quiet for a while is good for your and other's mental health.
- Regret is way more painful than failure.
- Having one good loyal friend is better than 1000 acquaintances.
These
are the several lessons, that hit me harder in the first half of 2023 when I
was struggling. After letting go of my chance for higher studies, I opted for
the job again but this time I shifted towards a different field, than the
former one. I started with a new zeal and ambition. During this and ahead
times of the year, I learned much more from the people and things.
Here
are some which, I’ve penned down here, as part of the learnings of 2023, for
me, learning is an integral part of my life and I'm happy to learn more from my
own mistakes.
- People will always talk negative about you behind your back and good in front of you.
- Give>Receive. Always works well for more.
- You may have several well-wishers but only a few among them wish well about you.
- Living away for a while from social media is the best decision for me in 2023.
- Spending on good books, knowledge, and looks is worth it. It is an investment rather than an expense.
- Some people want to see you good, but never better than them.
- If you wish to learn/do something impossible and have no proper sources for it but if you have will and determination you will succeed for sure.
- The best thing about the time whether it is good or bad. It changes for sure.
- Mental health is as important as that of your physical health.
- Doing something is the fastest way of learning it.
To
summarize all this learning is a part of our lives and we all should learn well
from our and other mistakes. While writing this I’ve missed several good things
that happened for this particular year. I’m grateful for everything. I strive
better in the upcoming year and make more out of it.
Presently I'm doing good and more importantly doing what I like the most. Perhaps I'm not where I wanted to be but, I believe that someday I will be there with what I have and what I wish to have.
Do let me know about your learnings from 2023.
With this note,
I wish you all a very Happy New Year
Love
Gaurav
