Being
a history aficionado I sometimes find it very much exaggerating to read and
write on the historic topics. Because history remind us that who we are and who
will become. To such one topic which is quiet close to our soul is
independence! So let’s deep down into some history and its teachings!
With the theme "Ek Bharat, Shresht Bharat," India is prepared to celebrate its 75th anniversary of independence on August 15, 2022.
In India, every year, the 15th of
August is marks as Independence Day. This year’s Independence Day marks the
75th anniversary of India’s independence from British rule. The particular
event is also called #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav
and the government of India has decided to organize numerous events, and
programs on this amrit parv of azadi. The meaning of this #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav
is the, elixir of energy of independence; elixir of inspirations of the
warriors of freedom struggle; elixir of new ideas and pledges; and elixir of
Aatmanirbharta. This umbrella of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav
covers wide range of events and programs, these programs will honour the
history of India, its culture, and the achievements of its people.
To back in the pre-independence era
where it all begins, Mahatma Gandhi launched the historic Quit India movement
on August 8, 1942. Gandhiji's famous Quit India speech at the Gowalia Tank
Maidan in Bombay imparted a sense of urgency to the developing revolt against
British rule, with the entire nation standing united. The collective will of
the Indian people, propelled by a desire to govern themselves and define their
future, found expression in the historic events that followed, eventually
culminating to the country's independence on August 15, 1947. Eighty years ever
since Gandhiji's call to "Quit India," as India celebrates 75 years
of independence under the cohesive headline of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, let us
pause to take into account our achievements, take pride in the milestones we
have attained, and think how to tackle the numerous challenges we still need to
overcome. It is worth recalling that by weaponizing ahimsa, or nonviolence, to
combat British colonial oppression and making it one of the cornerstones of the
independence struggle alongside civil disobedience, Gandhiji offered the masses
a moral philosophy and galvanised them. The ahimsa mantra is significant
because it is embedded in our great nation's cultural and civilisational
character. Importantly, during our freedom struggle, slogans such as
"Vande Mataram," "Jai Hind," and "Inquilab
Zindabad," as well as potent symbols such as charkha, rakhi, salt, and
khadi, served as a unifying force for the masses. The Father of the Nation was
ably supported by a plethora of prominent leaders and thousands of lesser-known
freedom fighters who heroically fought for India's Independence, including many
who willingly sacrificed their lives for the greater cause while adhering to
the concept of nonviolence. It was, indeed, an exceptional episode in human
history.
India's history is one of conflict
and passive resistance to invaders who raided, plundered, ravaged, and left a
trail of destruction across the country, as well as devious colonisers who
oppressed it employing the principle of divide and rule. There were notable
examples, including Prithviraj Chauhan, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Maharana Pratap,
Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi shows extreme valour and courage against these evil powers. However, as history shows, these stories of
bravery, tenacity, and patriotism were localised and few and far between.
Nonetheless, neither the invaders nor the subsequent colonisers, who both
attempted to strike at the foundations of India's ancient civilization through
various means, were able to sever the thread of cultural and civilizational
continuity that unites our wonderful nation.
India has accomplished a plethora of
outstanding feats throughout its 75-year journey as a free nation. We must be
inspired by our long-drawn-out freedom struggle, which was a voyage of
resilience and optimism. It is a journey that inspires us to keep raising the
bar in all areas of human endeavour and staying focused in the face of
hardship. We have a big pool of human resources that are among the best in the
world. As a result, in order to realise its full potential in terms of
economic, scientific, technical, and human resource development, India must
exploit its demographic dividend.
On this momentous juncture, Let us
pause for a moment to consider the challenges we confront and must overcome.
Our hard-won Swaraj must be converted into Vijay at the grass roots, and the
scourges of poverty, illiteracy, gender discrimination, corruption, and
disparities of all stripes must be eradicated. Good and fair governance is the
cornerstone to progress if we are to develop a truly equitable society free of
all inequities.
The principles of equality,
unification, and inclusion permeated the cultural ethos of ancient Indian
civilization. We only need to look to our forefathers for inspiration if we
want to create a strong, thriving nation.
As we celebrated the glorious 75
years of Independence, we must look back in our history and think for better
future in upcoming years. To addition this, Our emphasis must be directed
toward ensuring that all people have equitable access to excellent healthcare
and educational facilities. India's remote areas cannot be neglected in this
mission. It is imperative to move quickly and incorporate rural improved
infrastructure into the overall development narrative. The educational
environment will be transformed through the promotion of the mother tongue by
making it more accessible and egalitarian. Man has harmed the ecosystem
irreparably with his unbridled greed. As of now global warming and climate
change has leave its footprints all over the world and its alarming situation
is continuously knocking the door of the developed nations and those who are in
the race of development. Climate change is a worldwide issue right now. We must
devote all of our collective efforts to conservation with a missionary fervor
because it is the only way we can ensure the survival of the planet. The cosmic
outlook of our prehistoric society is reflected in our scriptures. They are
brimming with instances of how rivers, mountains, sacred plants, and trees have
been used to worship the divine. To find motivation and work to ensure the
future of coming generations, we merely need to return to our moorings. In
other words, to ensure a good future, we must maintain both nature and culture.
Recalling the wonderful eras of our
freedom movement unites us all in an overwhelming, transcendent love for Bharat
Mata. By learning about the contributions made by our great freedom warriors to
rescue the nation from repressive and exploitative colonial control, we are
obliged to explore our rich past. We should take this opportunity to reflect on
the sacrifices made by many of our famous and lesser-known freedom fighters in
order to realise their shared goal of a free India. We all have a moral
obligation to work together toward the common goal of creating the vibrant,
prosperous, and equitable India that these people envision.
Be free, Be you! Happy Independence day!!
-Gaurav!
